17th May - The celebration

Norwegian National Day - 17th May
Now that the 17th May celebration is finished, I can summarize what happened down here in Sydney.

Started up by dressing in my best suit (actually my only suit) and traveling in to the city to meet the rest of the norwegians in Belmore Park near Central Station. Brought along my national flags (thanks mum!)
In Belmore Park ANSA, Sjømannskirken and Norskeklubben had arranged for among other things; auction, norwegian hotdogs, singing and games for the children.
The auction went a bit “wild” since people actually paid up to $50 for either a milk chocolate, liquorice boats and solo.
Parade
From Belmore Park we got police escorte as we walked in parade through Sydney’s streets while the local residents gazed dumbfounded at us. Not a normal day in Sydney! :)
We walked down to Darling Harbour where the parade splittet up in 2 groups; those who went out to Manly and Sjømannskirken and those of us who walked over to PumpHouse where ANSA arranged a party. During the few hours we were in the park and until we came to PumpHouse the weather was ok, but once we stood in queue to enter the club, we got surprised by some heavy showers.
At PumpHouse we got served beer, mashed potatos, beer, swedish (!!) meatballs and… more beer! Continued the party at PumpHouse until around 9 o’clock when they closed the bar and kicked us out… somehow we had disturbed the guests at a hotel nearby and they had already run out of 4 of the 5 beer labels they sold. Apparantly hey didn’t know that norwegians drink that hard!
The party continued over at Pier26 where they were more than welcome and had more than enough alcohol for us! :)

One of our “projects” at PumpHouse was (due to our love of the norwegian band “Ølhundene”) to write down all major norwegian musicians/bands, as you can see in this image:

The rest of the images (about 60) you can see in the Gallery.
